Biography of Vanya
Milanova |
| Bulgarian born,
Vanya Milanova studied at Sofia Music Academy with Prof. Peter
Arnaudov and by the time she was twenty became a major Prize-winner
of the Tchaikovsky, Queen Elizabeth and Paganini Competitions. She
embarked on a career giving more that a hundred concerto and recital
performances a year throughout Europe, Scandinavia, South America,
South Africa, Israel and the Far East. In Moscow her televised
performance in the Bolshoi Hall was described by David Oistrakh
writing for "Pravda": "Vanya Milanova gave brilliant performances of
the Tchaikovsky and Paganini Concertos". The great Henryk Szering
wrote about her: "Vanya Milanova is undoubtedly one of the most
captivating violinists of her generation. Charm, tenderness, fiery
temperament and deep musical insight, combined with a secure and
brilliant technique contribute to produce an artistry which is
rarely found".
Living in London, Vanya Milanova plays with the major British
orchestras, broadcasts for BBC and appears at the South Bank and
many of our Music Festivals to great critical acclaim. The Daily
Telegraph has called her a player of "magisterial confidence... a
vital artist for whom problems seemed not to exist" whilst in the
Times "A dazzling firework display thrown off by Vanya Milanova with
nonchalant mastery... she can make music of anything she
touches."
Each year Miss Milanova returns to her native Bulgaria to give
masterclasses and to play at the major Festivals of the country.
In 1999 she received the "Freedom of the city" of her home town
Razgrad. She also serves as a Jury member for various International
